ASHLAND — The Ohio Department of Transportation is providing information to inform adjacent property owners, local officials and all interested citizens of ODOT’s proposal to construct a single-lane roundabout at the intersection of U.S. Route 250, State Route 60 and Faultless Drive located within the corporation limits of Ashland.
By distributing this information, ODOT is providing an opportunity for the public to participate in the decision-making process for this project through the review of the project information and offering comments regarding the proposed improvements.
To protect the health of all Ohio citizens, and in accordance with the state of Ohio’s “Stay Safe Ohio” order and the Ohio Department of Health’s Urgent Health Advisory, ODOT will not have an in-person public meeting for this project.
The U.S. Route 250 corridor is part of the Statewide Transportation System (STS) network, which is critical to trucking and freight movement within Ohio. As part of this system, this intersection has experienced a high frequency of crashes as well as a high occurrence of injury and angle crashes for many years.
From 2014-2017, there were 12 crashes including: 8 angle crashes (67%), 2 left turn (17%), 1 overturning crash (8%), and 1 non-collision crash (8%). Of the 12 total crashes, 8 (67%) resulted in injury. The possible causes of these crashes are contributed to the inability for minor road drivers to find gaps in traffic, which leads to a high occurrence of angle crashes for those movements.
Several low-cost countermeasures have already been installed and have not been successful in reducing the angle crash pattern. Signalization of the intersection is not warranted and all-way stop control would increase delay for U.S. Route 250 traffic.
The purpose of this project is to provide a safer traveling environment by reducing the number of conflict points at the U.S. Route 250, state Route 60 and Faultless Drive intersection, and to reduce vehicle delays.
The recommended improvement is to convert the intersection of U.S. Route 250, state Route 60 and Faultless Drive to a single-lane modern roundabout. The estimated project cost is $2.1 million.
Construction of the roundabout is anticipated to be completed in calendar year 2022. U.S. Route 250 and state Route 60 will be detoured for a 120-day construction duration as follows:
U.S. Route 250 southbound – Use U.S. 250 northbound slip ramp
U.S. Route 250 northbound – Use U.S. 250 northbound slip ramp
State Route 60 northbound – State Route 511 northbound to U.S. Route 250 northbound slip ramp to SR 60
State Route 60 southbound – U.S. Route 250 southbound to U.S. Route 250 northbound slip ramp to state Route 511 southbound to SR 60
Faultless Drive – Will use Wells Road to U.S. Route 250/SR 60 for detour
All appropriate environmental studies will be completed prior to final design of the project. Project development schedule:
Design, 2020-2021
Right of Way, 2021
Utility Relocations, 2021
Construction, 2021-2022
